Inspiration: Paris Deco Off 2017

Robyn Scott of Robyn Scott Interiors, LLC and Room Workshop recently traveled to Paris for a week of inspiration and discovery at the Paris Deco Off 2017. American hosts, Art and Marvin of John Brooks Inc, created an amazing experience for us with the utmost hospitality. In her own words, Robyn describes the trip,

“Paris was an amazing inspirational design trip. I especially loved being surrounded by the beauty, detail and elegance of the architecture. While walking the city, each turn you took, revealed a beautiful surprise of a Parisian building with ornate window framing, grand doorways, arches, and detailed iron railings. Our apartment was near the Arch de Triomphe and the Place du Trocadero with the best views of the Eiffel Tower. The contrast of historical to modern of those two monuments is a feast for the eyes. The richness of art and architecture, and couture are immersed throughout the city, from the language, to the cuisine, to the culture. We had the warmest of welcome at each showroom where we had private presentations of the new collections; with champagne, colorful macaroons, and the utmost hospitality.”

Exploring the world of the latest trends in textiles was a major component of the Paris Deco Off.

Learning about the history of the companies and their creators, the detailing that goes into the fabrication, hand and machine techniques, and the stories behind creating a collection was a highlight to say the least. Like fashion, each season, the fabric companies create a new collection. A lot of inspiration drawn from nature, couture fashion, travel, and historic architecture detailing and patterns. Some commonalities were exhibited to the design approach were commitment to quality, sophistication, classicism, craftsmanship, and commitment to designing form the luxury markets.
