Frequently Asked Questions

Do you work with my contractor?

We coach you on how to act as the designer to work with your contractor, this keeps your costs down. We are available through e-mail to answer questions. Please do not forward e-mails from your contractor but instead create a consolidated list of what answers you need and we will help you. We will also be able to coach you to ask the right questions.

How will I know that my Kitchen and/or Bathroom design will stay in budget when working with a contractor?

We will do our best to work within your selected budget. However, we don’t want to limit you on your design possibilities. When it comes to construction related items such as fireplaces, built-ins, bars, kitchens, architectural ceiling elements, lighting details, and other fixed architectural items, we will provide you with an estimated cost for that item and you will work with your contractor on the cost and the supplier.

Why is this better than hiring a local interior designer that will come to my home?

You get to shop for yourself, spend less, and get a complete look on your own timeline. A full service interior design firm will cost much more and take much longer to get a completed room design.

How can you offer a room design at such a low cost?

Because we are designing quickly and efficiently without many meetings by getting a lot of information up front and you doing some homework, we can complete the design in a short amount of time.

How do all the pieces fit together, with designer, kitchen and/or bath cabinet person, contractor?

First, you will need to hire Room Workshop for the design in order to get a price through your contractor for the project. You can then take the design to a Kitchen and Bath Showroom and also take the design to your Contractor and have him bid it through some of his cabinet suppliers and other subcontractors. You will need to talk to your GC about how much of the Kitchen or Bath he will be doing verses the Kitchen and Bath showroom. This will be part of your To Do List.

How do we get your design within budget to a cabinet person? Do you work with specific cabinet people?

You can have your contractor work solely with his suppliers but you may end up doing more work on your end without the Kitchen and Bath showroom. There may be a need for some re-selections to stay within budget after your contractor has gone through the bidding process. You may ask us for ideas on new sources that are less expensive. We will strive to be in budget from the beginning but this is a process with other parties involved so there may need to be some negotiations and compromises in order to stay within a budget. We can research kitchen and cabinet suppliers in your area to give you recommendations on whom to work with.

How will I know where to purchase the furniture or fixtures?

We will provide you with a detailed shopping list with the online shops where you can purchase the specified items.

What if the an item that you or my contractor selected for the design is no longer available? How do we reselect?

E-mail us and we can send you more supplier ideas. Or, have your contractor recommend a supplier and send us images of the options you are considering.

What if the contractor recommends another countertop material because he found it as a remnant at a discounted rate? How do we decide?

E-mail us a picture and we will help you make the decision.
